Prince Louis of France
In 1215, the English barons rebelled against the unpopular King John in the First Barons' War. The Barons reasoned that as Louis' wife, Blanche of Castileas, was a descendant of Henry II of England, they would offer the throne to Louis.
Prince Louis of France landed unopposed on the Isle of Thanet on 21 May 1216. There was little resistance when the prince entered London at the head of his army, where he was proclaimed King Louis I of England at Old St. Paul's Cathedral with much pomp and celebration in the presence of all of London.
However, with the death of John in October 1216, the barons changed their allegiance to John's son, the nine-year-old Henry (Henry III)
